Complete Dome-Kitase road on time and within budget – Akufo-Addo to contractors

President Akufo-Addo has charged contractors of the Dome-Kitase road project to ensure that they complete the construction on time and within the budgeted US$ 35 million United States dollars allocated for it.

Addressing the chiefs, elders and inhabitants of the Dome, Kwabenya, Kitase, areas at the sod-cutting ceremony for the rehabilitation of the 23km Dome-Kitase road project, at the forecourt of the Comet Hillside Police Station, President Akufo-Addo said he is happy that the rehabilitation of the Dome-Kitase road is taking place during his presidency.

Adequate compensation

Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Attah, in his remarks noted that adequate provision has been made by his ministry to compensate all persons who may be affected or displaced by the road project.

He added that his ministry is going to keep an eagle eye on the project to ensure that it is constructed to specification and within the contract duration of 24 months.

Dome-Kitase road

The Dome-Kitase road project is 23 km in length. The project is to be funded by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) and the Government of Ghana.

The Ghana Highways Authority (GHA), the implementing agency of the project, will supervise M/S Messrs. First Sky Limited as contractors and Pace -Transtech JV, as consultants.

The contract was awarded on 22 June 2022. Construction commenced on 15 July 2022, and is scheduled to be completed on 14 July 2024.

The total estimated cost of the project is One Hundred and Ninety Two Million, Nine Hundred and Thirty-two Thousand, One Hundred and Ninety-seven Ghana Cedis (GHc 192,932,197.00).

Scope of the project

The project is denoted as Regional Route 98 (R98) and it provides the shortest connection between the Accra-Kumasi Road (N6) at Pokuase and the Accra-Aburi-Koforidua road (N4) at Kitase.

It offers an opportunity for road users to connect the two national roads without the urban traffic normally associated with these two national roads.

The project area is characterized by a land use made up of an urban, peri-urban and rural areas. Major settlements along the route are Dome, Kwabenya, Ayim, Brekusu, Agyementi and Kitase. The road provides critical access to schools, health facilities and estate housing.

The project upon completion, is expected to improve capacity of the urban section with one-way system, dualization and junction

improvements.

Other aspects of the project scope are total pavement rehabilitation, major drainage improvements along the entire stretch, road safety features such as road markings and signs, street lights, traffic lights and pedestrian walkways.
