Poultry farmers lament over high cost of production, want ban on poultry importation
Poultry farmers in the Ashanti Region are lamenting bitterly over the high cost of production in the industry.
According to the formal national chairman of the association and the CEO of K Asante Farms Ltd, Mr Kwadwo Asante, speaking to the media today, January 11, 2022, the cost of production in the industry currently has hugely affecting the poultry business in the country especially in the region.
He said, the shortage of maize and subsequent rise in prices of the product have become a major blow for them and making it difficult to feed their birds.
Mr. Asante opined that, the poultry industries in Ghana are on the verge of collapsing and wants government take drastic measures such as banning importation of poultries into the country, in or order to sustaining the industry.
“The work is now difficult and our businesses are near collapse”
He revealed that, “prices of products have been increased to Gh400 and have affected them.
Since last year July, maize has shot up very high and other products as well. if our business collapses what then becomes of us?”
