Smuggling will increase amongst some importers due to the reversal of the Benchmark value by the Government.
According to the Business mogul, the removal of the Benchmark will raise the cost on importing products into the country by traders and otherwise, compel some traders to resort to smuggling.
He said, the development will also give birth to under- declaration at our various ports on the part of some importers to avoid higher cost.
Speaking to filasconews on Friday, January 7,2022, Mr. Eddie Kusi Ankomah, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Erata Motors opined that, government should as a matter of urgency review his decision on the removal and make some changes in order to give relief to traders especially, Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA).
He elaborated that, we are going to witness increase on prices of consumables, clothes, spare parts, medical apparatus, and all other commodities in the country if government fails to address some of the concerns of GUTA.
The business man is therefore entreating government, to adhere to the grievances of GUTA, Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana etc. to consider reversing or reviewing the decision.
He said, Ghana as a whole would benefit not alone GUTA and other business entities.
