Desparete Chiefs and residents contribute towards clinic project

The chiefs and people of Nnweneso No1, a predominantly farming community in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region, have held a durbar to raise funds towards the completion of a clinic they were constructing through self-help.

The 10-bed facility, which comes with an Out Patients Department (OPD), consulting room, a dispensary, general and labour wards, and nurses quarters would serve the health needs of the people not only in the community but those in the surrounding villages.

It would effectively end the situation where the sick and pregnant women are forced to make a round trip of about 47 kilometres to receive treatment at either Suntreso government hospital or Komfo Anokye teaching hospital.

Hon Kwame Atinka, the Assembly member for the area, applauded the community for taking the initiative to tackle their felt need, using their own resources.

He said that was the way to go to speed up the development of the area, pointing out that, the government could not be expected to provide for every single need of the various communities.

“You deserve commendation for taking a bold step to address your health needs”, he added.

Hon Atinka added that, he has already inform the Assembly about their health issue in the community and promise to remind the DCE so that, the assembly would stand with the people every step of the way to complete the project.

The clinic, which was started, few years ago is now at the lintel level of construction.
Nana Kwame Dapaah, the chief of the community , said they were determined to see the job done without delay to provide them access to quality healthcare.
