Majority leader has outlived his usefulness in parliament, replace him- Security Expert

Security Expert has threw punch at the Majority Leader, who is the leader of Government’s business in the lawmaking chamber, saying he has outlived his usefulness in the house.

Confusion broke out in parliament on Monday, December 20, 2021, around 11pm over the 2022 budget statement.

There was a free for all fights in the chamber as Honourable Members were seen throwing punches at each other during voting time on the controversial E-Levy tax.

The first deputy speaker of parliament, Hon. Joseph Osei Owusu popularly referred to as, Joe Wise, who presided over the proceedings in the house on that fateful night decided to exercise his enfranchise as an MP for Bekwai Constituency in the Ashanti Region.

The minority unhappy with his action blocked him from taking part in the voting process saying, so far as he sits in as the speaker of the house that night, he looses his original vote as an MP therefore, they would not allow him to vote.

This broke out into a pandemonium in the house as the majority members in the house also insisted the first deputy speaker still has his original vote.

The situation got tense disrupting all process in the house. The Marshals of the chamber have to step in to settling the muddy almost an hour.

But, reacting to the issue today, Tuesday, 21st December, 2021, on Accra based Peace midday news, Security Analyst, Dr. Adam Bonah blamed the majority leader, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu for failing to execute his duty as head of Government’s business in the chamber.

He said, the posture of the Suame MP in a press interviews anytime the minority disagrees with them doesn’t show respect, to get the needed support from the minority caucus.

Dr. Adam believes that, there must be a consensus building between the two caucus to agree to disagrees as far as Ghana now has hung parliament, but elaborated that, the majority leader lacks such leadership skills to getting some of the minority at their side in order to make easy way for government’s businesses endorsement.

The Security Expert is therefore calling on the majority caucus in parliament i.e the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs to replace him with a sober person.

“They need someone who is sober and can convince the opposition MPs to side with them in critical times like this”.

In addition he opined that, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs has totally outlived usefulness in the chamber.

“He has outlived his usefulness as a majority leader and whatever he says irritates the minority to back them, so I’m suggesting that, they have to change him for someone who can corporate well with the minority”.

Not being a prophet of doom, the Expert disclosed that, confusion would always broke out in the house so far as Hon. Kyei Mensah continues to be the majority leader.

“If they refuse to replace him, we are yet to witness more scuffles in the house”, he said in the interview monitored by filasconews.
