2022 Budget approved

The 2022 budget read by the Finance Minister Hon. Ken Ofori Atta on Wednesday, November 17,2021 on the floor of Parliament has been passed today, Tuesday, November 30,2021 by parliament.

The budget which was earlier rejected by the minority caucus in parliament, the motion was moved in parliament today by the Majority leader, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu.

The Finance Minister who was prevented from parliament last week to explain further the need for the budget to be approved by parliament was allowed today by the  First Deputy Speaker of Parliament who chaired parliament proceedings today.

The First Deputy Speaker who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Bekwai Constituency in the Ashanti Region after hearing the finance Minister allowed Members in the house in the absence of the minority to decide on the budget approval which he deems it legal vis a vis the last week’s decision by the minority to rejecting the budget.

After considering himself to be part of the majority in parliament today, the total number in the house moved from 137 to 138 this according to him is eligible to adopt and approve a motion.

The Deputy Speaker then put the motion on the floor for members to approve or disapprove and overwhelmingly, the yes carried the day.

Going by the standing orders of the house, Hon. Joseph Osei Owusu a.k.a Joe Wise, who chaired the proceedings approved the 2022 Budget.

Remember, the Minority did not partake in the proceedings concerning the budget approval today.
