The students of Akropong D/A Basic School at Nzema-Akropong in the Ellembele District of the Western Region have made passionate appeal to the government to come to their aid.

The school is in dire need of support in terms of furniture and classroom blocks.

The worried assembly member of the Akropong-Nzemaa electoral area who also teaches in the school, Hon. Anthony Eshun speaking on a Kumasi based Silver FM’s Omanbapa morning show said, teachers are unable to conduct class tests exercise due to the crowding nature of pupils on a dual desk.

He said, a dual desk which ought to contain a maximum number of two (2) students is now carrying four (4) to six (6) pupils making teaching and learning repetitious. Adding that, the population of students outweigh their furniture hence some pupils will have no option than to sit on the bare floor during exercise in order to create space for themselves to be able to write.

Hon. Eshun continued that, the classrooms and their roofings are in deplorable state.

When asked by the host of the program, Nana Ampratwum, whether any attempts had been made to draw authorities attention to the problem, Hon. Anthony Eshun affirmed by saying several efforts had been made to the assembly but are yet to yield result.

“We have registered all our problems at the assembly but nothing has happened so far”, the assembly member opined during the interview monitored by filasconews on November 29,2021.
