Ghanaian author rubbishes claims that Kwame Nkrumah never owned a house

Renowned Ghanaian author Abyna Ansaa Adjei, has picked holes in media claims that the first President of Ghana, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, never owned a house, indicating that the properties which were owned by Nkrumah, is a matter of public record.

A Senior Citizen, Ezekiel Kwesi Akyin Biney, in a recent interview on Joy New Channel, Prime Morning, said, Kwame Nkrumah never owned a house even when he was the President of Ghana.

According the publication on myjoyonline.com, “Mr Biney, whose father worked in Nkrumah’s regime during the post-colonial era stated that Nkrumah never built a house during his tenure as Ghana’s President and his son had to live with someone else”.

However, in a rejoinder addressed to Joy FM and entitled “Nkrumah never owned a house”, Abyna Ansaa Adjei, noted that she is “not a believer in historical arguments based on which side of the political divide one belongs or which version of Ghana’s historical narrative one chooses to believe and then propagate”.

“I think when it comes to the history of Ghana’s recent past, it is always good to have historians close by to guide, direct, inform and educate”.

“Thankfully, the Addo-Fenings, Twumasis, Ansah-Kois, Yayohs and Ababios, erudite Professors who can give some guidance on such historical matters, are still with us” Madam Abyna Ansaa Adjei said.

In her argument, the author of “Things Every Child of Ghana Should Know About Dr. J.B. Danquah” noted that “on March 10, 1966, a Commission of Enquiry was appointed by the National Liberation Council – Commission to Enquire into Kwame Nkrumah’s properties, and its report and White Paper are a matter of public record”.

“This Commission was chaired by Justice Fred Kwasi Apaloo, and is commonly referred to as the Apaloo Commission”.

Warrant of Appointment

“I attach two pages regarding Nkrumah’s properties (page 7 & 8) from the Report for your perusal. Also, find the Warrant of Appointment and the Acknowledgment Pages of the Report attached. In addition, there is a Ghanaian Times Headline article of April 28,1966 that makes mention of President Nkrumah’s last will and testament” Madam Abyna A. Adjei wrote in her rejoinder.

“Hopefully, it will help you (the publishing media house, Joy FM) decide whether what you put out yesterday about President Kwame Nkrumah never owning a house was fact or fiction”.

“There is so much history about Ghana that is hidden in the archives and maybe next time before you go down the historical route, you should arm yourselves with enough information in order not to swallow hook, line and sinker whatever is said on your station and broadcast the same misinformation, falsehood and revised history to the good people of Ghana” she added
