Minister worried over Sandwining and Encroachment on Water bodies
The Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah expressed worry over the encroachment and sandwinning practices at the banks of the rivers providing for the the country.

According to her, these practices hindering on the country’s urge to providing portable water to the people of Ghana due to people personal interest.
The Minister said this during a tour of some water treatment plants at Nsawam and Weija to ascertain challenges the plants are being faced during this dry season as she was joined by the MD for the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL)
Speaking to the media, the Minister stressed that, the dry season has caused some challenges with water production which is river sources drying up and coupled with some human activities like encroachment and sandwinning at Weija and Nsawam.
She stated that, they will try and probe into all those illegal activities that is being witnessed at the banks of the rivers which is affecting the plants of the GWCL.

The Communications Director for the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Stanley Martey speaking to the media also expressed disappointment over the level of poor compliance to laws as he says, the human activities at the banks of the river is costing the GWCL and the country huge sums of money therefore appeal to those who are involved to desist from such act.
