Heavy Defeat: Hearts of Oak thrashed by Tamale City at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium

Tamale City recorded a crucial 4-1 triumph over Hearts of Oak at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in match-week 28 of the Ghana Premier League.

The defeat to Hearts is their eighth of the league season and their second in their April 2023 games.

For City, the home win is their second in the last three matches. They beat Bechem United at Tamale and drew against Great Olympics away.

Hearts coach David Ocloo chose Seidu Suraj to partner Linda Ntange and Eric Esso in midfield.

The game started with both sides on the full attack in search of the lead but it was Tamale City who struck first.

Sampson Eduku scored in the 16th minute after going past three Hearts defenders on the left flank. The forward found the net again in the 36th minute for City and they went into halftime with the lead.

In the second half, the Phobians failed to reduce the deficit early and the home side capitalized on their lacklustre performance to score the third through Mohammed Yahaya in the 56th minute.

Hearts then pulled a goal back in the 79th minute through forward Victor Aidoo.

As the game drew to its closure, Isaac Mensah scored the fourth for Tamale City in the 94th minute of additional time.

The win boosts City’s battle to avoid relegation in the 2022/23 league season. They lie 13th in the standings and face Asante Kotoko for their next game.

Hearts drop to 6th and play King Faisal at Abrankese in match-week 29.
