A/R: JHPIEGO, USAID RISE support 2023 COVID-19 vaccination campaign

The Ashanti Regional Health Directorate is undertaking a COVID-19 vaccination campaign from the 26th to the 30th of April, 2023.

The Directorate hopes to vaccinate 140,000 people after this campaign. The exercise is being sponsored by USAID and Jhpiego.

According to the Regional Health Director, Dr. Emmanuel Tenkorang, staffs from Ghana Health Service have been engaged for the exercise.

He said mobile teams will be moving from community to community and school to school during the period.

Dr. Tenkorang said so far, a total of 4,241,717 have been fully vaccinated while 2,431,732 have received at least one dose representing 75.5% received at least one dose of the vaccine and 53.9% fully vaccinated.

He has then urged those who have not yet received the vaccines to do so at the facilities near them.

He also also advised those who have taken their first jabs to take the second and the booster while pregnant women also urged to go for the vaccines especially Pfizer vaccine which has been recommended for them and 15-year-old children.

Dr Emmanuel Tenkorang in conclusion said hand washing, the use of nose masks, physical distancing and full vaccination is alternative way to stop the spread of COVID-19 virus.
