Boy, 16, drowns after allegedly insulting “River 5”

A lifeless body of a 16-year-old boy has been retrieved from River Five(5) at Senase in the Berekum East Municipality of the Bono Region.
The deceased, identified as Yaw Augustine, a tiling (tiler)learner , was going to swim with his friend when the incident occurred.
The custodian Linguist of Senase,Amamere Kyeame Yaw Tuah, confirmed this unfortunate incident to Akwaaba Radio.
He said the deceased, known to be a stranger at Senase, drowned while showing his friends his swimming skills with ball.
“He compared the river to the sea,swimming pools and said he can swim in it but drowned in the process,” Amamere Kyeame added.
However, fetish priestess of the area, Okomfour Baa Ataa Maame, said the young boy drowned because he insulted the river god He said they had to perform series of rituals to pacify the river god before the body was found.
Amamere Kyeame said the police were called to the scene to convey the lifeless body of the boy.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Holy Family Hospital morgue pending autopsy.
