The body of a Makoni District headmaster was found near Rusape Dam, with police investigating the suspected suicide.

Manicaland police spokesperson Inspector Norbert Muzondo identified the deceased as Stanford Tsindikwa, the headmaster of Gwindingwi Secondary School.

Inspector Muzondo said Tsindikwa left his Rusape home on May 29 and sent suicidal text messages to his wife, Concern Mandiyaba. He did not return home that day.

Tsindikwa’s body was found on May 31 by Martin Shiridzinomwa, lying near Rusape Dam with no visible injuries. Police attended the scene and the body was taken to Rusape General Hospital for a post-mortem.

George Chidhakwa, Makoni District Schools Inspector, said Tsindikwa had been absent from work for most of the term due to domestic problems with his wife.

Mandiyaba declined to comment when contacted, referring queries to the police.

Tsindikwa’s burial was delayed after some relatives disputed the initial post-mortem results that concluded poisoning caused his death. They claimed bruises on his hands and feet suggested assault.

A second post-mortem was conducted at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital and also concluded poisoning caused his death. Tsindikwa was finally buried on Sunday at Yeovil Cemetery in Mutare.

Police investigations into the suspected suicide are ongoing
