Two Female galamseyers killed after being trapped in mining pit

BONSUKWADAA, a farming town in Atwima Mfensi, in the Ashanti Region, was on March 24, 2023, turned into a mourning area.

This sad news follows the sudden demise of two suspected female illegal miners, who were trapped in a deep mining pit.

The two have been identified as Safia Moro, aged 40 and Vivian Kyei, aged 33.

According to a police report, the two women were busily mining for gold in a pit around 3pm, when it suddenly caved in on them.

One Isaac Owusu, the Committee Chairman of Atwima Mfensi, upon learning of the unfortunate case, informed the police to take action.

A police report sighted by THE NEW PUBLISHER, said the police found two female bodies in a pit, which was filled to the brim with dirty water.

The police said the bodies were soiled with mud and blood was also found on the face of Vivian Kyei.

The report also said that the police observed that mining activities had taken place within a vast portion of the area where the bodies were found.

The two dead bodies, the police noted, have since been deposited at Mount Sinai Mortuary, Tabre, for preservation and autopsy.

According to the police, “Coroner’s forms would be prepared for the information of the District Coroner”.

Meanwhile, investigations into the two deaths were still underway when the report was being filed on Tuesday.
