National Honour: Ashanti regional health workers bag awards

Some Ghanaians who have excelled in their various fields of national endeavour over the years on Tuesday received national honours and were presented with awards for their meritorious services, hard work, sacrifices and contribution to national development.

The awards were dominated by workers in the health sector and their leaders who were at the forefront of the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as individuals and organisations that supported the fight.

The Ashanti Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Emmanuel Tenkorang was among those who received the highest award, Order of the Volta, Strategic leadership award for the COVID-19 while Mr Felix Frimpong, health promotion officer at the Ghana Health Service, Ashanti, received Risk communication category Grand Medal as a COVID-19 Operational Excellence Award.

Dr Emmanuel Tenkorang was part of the Forty-seven national icons in various national endeavours who were given the Order of the Volta for their exploits and sacrifices for the country, while 19,557 frontline health workers across the country were also recognised for their roles.

All the awards were presented by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

In an exclusive interview with Silver FM’s Akwadaa Nyame, Dr Emmanuel Tenkorang speaking on behalf of awardees in the Ashanti Region expressed appreciation for the honour and recognition, saying that would encourage them to continue to sacrifice for the region and the nation as a whole.

Dr Tenkorang then expressed his gratitude to the men and women who were entrusted with the responsibility of keeping the people of Ashanti safe at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. He also thank other NGOs and individuals who supported the region with PPEs during the pandemic.

Mr Felix Frimpong, head of health promotion at Ashanti Regional health directorate also added that, the people of Ashanti also deserved honour and commendation for their good behavior during the fight against the pandemic by observing the social protocols.

 

Justifying the awards for those in the Ashanti Region, Mr Felix Frimpong said, all the awardees who gave of their best during the COVID-19 pandemic deserved it and recounted the difficult times and the comprehensive strategy the directorate adopted to secure the priority.
