Public Notice: GNFS sends important message to the general public over fire outbreak

The Ghana National Fire Service is urging Ghanaians to install smoke alarms and early warning systems at homes and public places to reduce domestic fires.

The head of Safety department at the Amasaman GNFS, DO3 Lawrence Addo in the Ga West Municipality making reference to the Kejetia market fire suggested some detectors would have blown alert to create awareness of the fire.

He also appealed to Ghanaians to obtain home fire safety certificate and acquire fire extinguishers to protect live and properties during fire outbreaks.

According to him, it is important for Ghanaians to make exit plans and emergency movements easy during fire outbreaks.

He pointed out that fire safety is a shared responsibility and called on the public to welcome the home safety project, aimed at reducing domestic fires.

The Ghana National Fire Service said this has become necessary due to the increasing domestic fires in the country.

DO3 Lawrence Addo added that the service was launching its Safety Week which is focused on sensitizing, educating and monitoring some homes as well as private, and public institutions with the view to monitor and create awareness of devices, equipment and activities that may cause fire outbreaks and offer the necessary advice to prevent any potential outbreaks.
