Mandates of the National Teaching Council

The National Teaching Council (NTC) is an agency of the Ministry of Education.

The Council is mandated by the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023) to promote teacher professionalism in the country.

In Ghana, the teaching profession according to the government needs a new direction that will strengthen its value and assist all facilitators to be abreast with new ideas for imparting knowledge.

The listed mandates of the Council are intertwined. Each mandate has the ability to influence the other in accomplishing the purpose of the others for positive, international, and longevity reasons.

NTC is bestowed with the powers to undertake the following:

License and Register teachers/facilitators.

Keep an up-to-date database of teachers/facilitators.

Develop and periodically review professional standards and code of ethics.

Conduct teacher Licensure Examination.

Provide a framework for Continuous Professional Development (CPD) of teachers.

AFTER LICENSING WHAT IS NEXT?

After licensing, teachers/facilitators are required to:

Undergo Continuous Professional Development programs to earn credit points.

Build their portfolio.

Adhere to prescribed Standards and Professional Ethics.

Renew their license per the set duration as stated by the Council.

WHAT IS CPD?

CPD means Continuous Professional Development:

It refers to the process by which teachers/facilitators maintain and enhance their knowledge, skills, and experiences as they work after any initial training.
