At least 800 people displaced after Saturday’s downpour, one casualty recorded

Not less 800 people in the Eastern Region have been displaced after Saturday’s rainfall.

The storm along the rain collapsed hundreds of buildings in the region, making several people homeless.

Also, classroom blocks were pulled down following the Saturday’s downpour. Asamankese Senior High School, Government institutions all had their roofs ripped off by the rainstorm.

An old woman, believed to be in her 100s, was killed in the process after building collapsed on her.

Her body as at the time of filling this report has been conveyed by the police and deposited at the Asamankese Government Hospital’s morgue for autopsy and preservation.

Mr. Kwabena Manso, a family member to the deceased confirmed the news to newsmen.

Mr. Omane Awua Kingsley, Municipal Nadmo Director, who visited the place called on residents to routinely maintain their structures and heed cautions from the meteorological agencies to avoid such unfortunate incidents.

The Member of Parliament for the area Charles Acheampong on his part indicated after visiting some affected people that, steps are being taken to providing them with relief items.

“What we have seen here today is very bad and it can not be described in any way, I am devastated at the extent of damage and we need to do something about it.

The MCE and officials of Nadmo have been here and we will sit with them to immediately make some arrangements on what to do. I have also informed some top government officials to come to our aid”.
