Bring back caning into our schools to revive discipline – Christian Group to Education Minister

A christian group, Oman Ghana Yiedie Mpaebɔ Kuo has asked Ghana’s Minister of Education to reintroduce caning in schools to help control and curb the rising level of indiscipline in the schools.

Speaking in a press conference in Kumasi, a Patron of Oman Ghana Yiedie Mpaebɔ Kuo, Rev. Kwadwo Antwi averred that, it is the withdrawal of caning and other corporal punishments from schools that has accounted to the increase of gross insubordination, disregard for tradition and indiscipline in Ghanaian schools.

He added that during olden days when children who went wrong in schools were caned, pupils and students were easily corrected and reformed; and that has produced well-behaved and disciplined individuals in the society today.

”Today, parents can go to school to attack teachers for punishing their wards, students use phones while sitting in the classroom, according to him, all these behavior among the students need serious punishment from teachers to enable reform them.

We appeal to Education Minister to bring back the kind of punishments that were meted out to students who needed to be corrected in those days”, Rev. Kwadwo Antwi said.

Rev. Antwi, however, charged teachers to punish students in the rightful manner in order to achieve the purpose of the punishments.

He appealed to parents to play their roles in the education of their children.

Patron of Oman Ghana Yiedie Mpaebɔ Kuo, Rev. Kwadwo Antwi also counseled Ghanaian children to be committed to their education to secure better future for themselves, their families and the nation at large.
