W/R: Amenfi East MCE tasks miners to reclaim mining pits

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Amenfi East in the Western Region, Hon Frederick Kuranchie has tasked miners in the municipality to as a matter of urgency reclaim all mining pits.

The MCE Hon Frederick Kuranchie’s call comes after the Amenfi East Assembly led by himself launched ‘Operation Reclamation Exercise’ in the Municipality.

The Operation Reclamation Exercise will ensure that, all mining pits especially the abandoned pits are reclaimed completely to avert potential calamity and to use the land for other purpose.

Meanwhile, the MCE is poised to making mining activities in the municipality responsible ones. Talking to the press, Hon Kuranchie said he will not relent on his efforts to improve mining status in his catchment areas.

He said, he is championing the government’s responsible mining scheme thereby launching the operation reclamation exercise by the Amenfi East Municipal Assembly.

He disclosed that the main work for the people in Amenfi East municipality is mining, but elaborated that he will support the people who are engaging in the mining activities to improve their skills, to do a responsible mining.

The reclamation of pits according to him is a stepping stone for responsible mining in Amenfi East Municipality.

The exercise has already began in Dikoto, one of the mining communities in Amenfi East and has garnered massive supports from all the people.

The MCE who also doubles as a Mining Expert has assured miners in the municipality for his full support to improving mining activities devoid of unnecessary and preventable calamities.

“Government’s responsible mining scheme has come to stay. All abandoned pits would be reclaimed.

We are leaving no stone unturned, together, Amenfi East Municipality will become the best responsible mining municipality in Ghana”, Hon Frederick Kuranchie stressed.

Since his assumption into office in 2021, he has shown a great commitment to the mining sector in the municipality by lobbying for massive projects to support responsible mining and education for the people in the mining field.

He has lobbied for the construction of Minerals Commission Office and Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) offices in the municipality.
