NPP Internal Election: The Ugly And The Beautiful – Kennedy Annor Writes

NPP Internal Election: The Ugly And The Beautiful – Kennedy Annor Writes

I write with deep heart and concern about the behavior, attitude, and utterances of some of the followers of the presidential hopeful aspirants in their bid to garner votes for their candidates to emerge as victors to lead the Party in the 2024 general election.

I am a member of the party ( N.P.P) from the Suaman Constituency in the Western North Region of Ghana and sincerely want to bring to the attention of all N.P.P members that we have a common destiny to protect more than being at daggers drawn with each other. To what end? I ask.

We must rather work together for total unity for the saying goes, united we stand, divided we fall. Unity is the strength they say, and in our unity, we must not appear to be at a cross purpose but rather seek the general good of the party to retain power again in 2024 to deliver development for the country.

The New Patriotic Party( N.P.P) as a matter of fact, birth democracy in Ghana especially in the 4th republic and has fronted most of the reforms we have in our democracy and electoral process today.

These reforms have earned Ghana the enviable title Ghana, the democratic state in west Africa as such its members must not be seen to engage in a banter that suggests the opposite.

Members of this party have the right to campaign for their choice of leader but there are laid down rules we must follow. We must not campaign at the expense of the larger interest of our party. We must watch our tongues, and what to say at what point in time against ourselves and where to say it.

Today, we are happy to insult and raise all kinds of unfounded allegations against ourselves and we forget our opponents are keeping all these unfounded allegations for their campaign tomorrow. We must not sacrifice the party’s larger interest for any one person’s interest. The party is larger than any individual.
We must think about it.

We must engage in a decent campaign because the party can only select one person as its flag bearer. That does not mean that those who were not selected are not good materials or have been neglected in the party or by the party. It is only when we engage in a decent campaign that is when the unity we are looking for would come for victory in 2024. If this is not done, we better save our energy and resources because we will engage in an impossible mission.

I know our aspirants themselves have not and will not engage anybody to incriminate or insult any fellow aspirant but they should be aware that their followers can be more Catholic than the Pope all to prove their loyalty to them.

I plead with our noble Presidential hopefuls to come open to caution their followers and rebuke them when they cross the red line.

Another serious one for the aspirants and the party executives to take note of is tribal and religious politics. Ghana is a circular state. We have crossed-married ourselves tribally and religiously so any kind of politics that will destroy the beautiful culture of this nation should not only be frowned upon but treated as a criminal offense worthy of prosecution.

To conclude, I entreat all presidential hopeful aspirants, party executives, ( National, Region, and constituency), electoral area coordinators, polling station executives, the council of Elders, Patrons, and all sympathizers of this great elephant party to be circumspect in our utterances and our way of communication and to consider the Supreme interest of the party than any other individual’s interest.

Thank you
