Physically challenged persons in the Sekyere Kumawu district were given financial support and start up tools to begin big time businesses, which the DCE described as “Real support” that will take them off the streets from begging.

This rare but crucial support was their share of the Districts Assemblies Common Fund (DACF); which is given to all districts and municipalities across the nation for developmental purposes. The disabled thus have a 3% component in it. They are therefore entitled to such monies which are normally disbursed to the PWDs in each district according to their needs.

It is in line with this policy that the District Chief Executive for Sekyere Kumawu, Samuel Addae Agyekum and the social welfare department organized the disbursement programme at the forecourt of the assembly on December, 16, 2022 to fulfill this duty.

He stated that they have decided to give them the type of support that will take them off the streets forever and thus termed it “Real support”, stressing that this will give them permanent income generating activities.

The items distributed included freezers, fufu machine, Sacks of maize, sacks of charcoal and others. In all, forty (40) physically challenged persons were given the support.

The president of the physically challenged association at the district, Mr. Kwaku Boakye pleaded with authorities at the assembly to help facilitate the implementation of the disability act. So that commercial and public places will make their environments disability friendly.
