Covid Vaccination: A/R GHS targets 165,831 people ahead of X’mas

Officials of Ghana Health Service (GHS) in the Ashanti Region have target at least 165,831 people who have not taken the shot or have just taken one to be fully vaccinated ahead of the 2022 impending Christmas.

The Ghana Health Service will from Wednesday, December 14, 2022 begin vaccination of citizens who are partially vaccinated and /or unvaccinated persons aged 15 years and above against Covid-19 ahead of this years Christmas festivities.

The current vaccination drive which is expected to last for 5 days is to prevent a possible surge in cases of Covid-19 before, during and after the Christmas festivities.

Under the “theme”, Protect Yourself, Protect Your Family, Get Vaccinated Against Covid-19, this edition is expected to vaccinate about 165,831 people between 14th and 18th December 2022 with 2,013 health officials in the Ashanti Region.

The GHS has currently administered a total of 21,179,341 vaccine doses as of November 30 nation wide.

The Ashanti Regional Health Director of the Ghana Health Service Dr Emmanuel Tenkorang at a media engagement called on the citizenry to disregard reports that some of the Covid 19 vaccines which will be used during the period has expired.

According to him, the Ghana Health Service will not take people’s Health for granted. He said, every Ghanaian Health is their priorities and they will make sure everyone is free from any disease.

Dr Tenkorang said the exercise would help boost Covid-19 vaccine coverage among the population.

He said the health service has through the support of their partners have received substantial quantities of vaccines to fight the pandemic.

Meanwhile, the GHS has also confirmed that existing Covid-19 prevention measures at the airport for visitors have been strengthened to reduce the number of cases which may enter the country especially this years Christmas holidays.
