Mr Isaac Boadu, a member of the Anglican Church in Sefwi Bonzain Parish, has alleged that his Parish Priest has offered their family land to illegal miners [galamsey].

Mr Boadu said the land was a family property and a portion of it was allocated to Boinzan Anglican Church.

In an exclusive interview, he said, “as an Environmental Health Officer, I have been on transfer to several regions to serve my country until I went on retirement in 2020,”

“Upon my arrival, I noticed that my own Reverend Father Berlin has leased our family land to galamseyers in Sefwi Bonzai. I never believed it until I visited the site,” he stated.

Following this, Mr. Boadu has called on the national leaders of the Anglican Church to call on the said reverend father to order.

A few weeks ago, some clergymen toured some mining sites in the Eastern Region.

Notable among the clergy who visited the sites were the immediate past Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana, Bishop Dr. Paul Boafo, Presiding Chairman of the Assemblies of God, Rev Dr. Paul Frimpong Manso, and Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Ghana Apostle Eric Nyamekye.

They sang patriotic songs and prayed at one of the mining sites to ask for God’s forgiveness on behalf of perpetrators destroying the country’s land and river bodies through mining.

Mining activities in all forms have destroyed lands and river bodies questioning the government’s efforts and will at fighting to protect the environment.
