38th Famers day celebration: Atwima Mponua Assembly honoured 14 Farmers

The Atwima Mponua District Assembly last Friday honoured 14 farmers in the district at the 38th District Farmers Day celebration at Antwi Agyeikrom a community within the Atwima Mponua District in the Ashanti Region.

A Farmer who was adjudged the Overall Best Farmer in the district, and was presented with a motor king tricycle, a wheelbarrow, flat screen TV, a knapsack sprayer, machetes and a certificate of honour.

The other 13 award-winning farmers were presented with wheelbarrows, Wellington boots, knapsack sprayers, flat screen TV, and machetes.

At the well-attended ceremony, the Chief Executive of the Atwima Mponua District Assembly, Hon Isaac Kofi Marfo, commended the award winners for their hard work, and urged other farmers in the area to take a cue from them to maximise their output in order to win awards in the years ahead.

He enjoined farmers to add value to their farm produce in order to get more income from their toil.

He advised the youth to venture into agriculture to generate money for their livelihood, and also to boost food production in the country.

Hon Kofi Marfo stressed that the government was finding a lasting solution to farmers’ challenges such as poor road network and the high cost of farming inputs.

He then urged all the stakeholders in the district to help fight against illegal mining in order to preserve our lands and water bodies in the area.

The District Agric director Mr Prince Asare, urged the youth in the area to go into large-scale farming to supplement the efforts of the ageing farmers, saying there was dignity in farming.
