Man, 26, jailed 12 months for impersonating NIA Official

The Suhum Circuit Court presided over by Her Honor Efua G. Eddison has convicted and sentenced into prison custody a 26yrs old man 12months for pretending as an NIA official.

The Convict, Oheneba Emmanuel Kwaku was found guilty of 4counts and subsequently sentenced to his own plea.

The man, Emmanuel Kwaku Oheneba, was standing trial for impersonating an official of the National Identification Authority and issuing fake Ghana Cards to unsuspecting victims at Obretema in the Suhum and Akookoo in the Abuakwa South Municipalities of the Eastern Region for a fee.

He was charging between thirty cedis and fifty cedis for each fake card issued.

The Assembly Member of Obretema, John Cudjoe, together with about eleven victims reported the incident to the Suhum Municipal NIA office and the case was then forwarded to the Suhum Police for action to be taken in all some 25 persons are believed to have falling victims to the act.

The Suhum Municipal Registration Officer, Stephen Asukpa Odame has been briefing us what transpired and also disclosed that more than three thousand unclaimed Ghana Cards are currently in his office and urged those who have registered but have not received their cards to come for it.

Meanwhile, The Eastern Regional Registration Officer of the NIA, Peter Ntim Ofori has said, the authority has not sent anyone to communities to do any form of registration on their behalf and is calling on all Ghanaians to rather cross check any information at their districts offices.
