BREAKING: Patricia, 13, allegedly commits suicide over pencil at New Abirem
The Assembly member and Residents of Brong-Densuso in the Suhum Municipality of the Eastern region have pleaded with the Suhum Municipal Assembly and the government to come to their aid to address serious challenges confronting the community.
They are calling on authorities to help clear the over 40-year-old mountain Afadjato-like dumping site in the area.
The Assembly member for Brong-Densuso Electoral area, hon Wallace Kumi spoke in an exclusive interview with Afeema FM’ journalist Kaakyire Kwasi Afari, on Wednesday, 14th September, 2022.
Hon. Wallace Kumi Bemoaned that the dump-site has always been a breeding ground for unpleasant stench and mosquitoes, causing coughing, wheezing, malaria, among other diseases.
Furthermore, he told Kaakyire Kwasi Afari that they had consistently been appealing for Suhum Municipal Assembly and Zoomlion company to evacuate the mountain-like rubbish dump, but unfortunately their plea has not been heard.
“the Zoomlion people just came and took pictures of the dump sites but since then, they never returned. Nothing has been done about the situation” he cries out.
Meanwhile, the Assembly member indicated that the residents have giving assurance that they are ready to pay a token-fee to dump their refuse in containers that will be provided to the community, so as to avert a recurrence of the site degrading into a heap of rubbish.
The Assembly member again charged the Coastal Development Authority (CODA) to complete project it had initiated in the Brong-Densuso community.
He said CODA had started putting up toilet facility in the community but they had been abandoned for years.
He stressed that when completed, the toilet facility could address sanitation and open defecation challenges as over 1000 populates in electrical area depends on only one communal toilet facility in Brong-Densuso.

The Assembly member have moreover bitterly cried to the government and the Ghana Highways Authority to come to their aid and reconstruct the death trap bridge for them.
A bridge on the Densu River on the main Akwadum-Suhum road linking New Juaben North and Suhum Municipal in the Eastern Region may caves in if authorities chose to ignore.
According to them, the weak bridge serves many towns in the area which also contribute huge quota to commercial drivers who routes on Koforidua to Suhum road.
Hon. Wallace Kumi told Kaakyire Kwasi Afari that leaders in the various affected towns have written several petitions to the Highways Authority and the assembly but no positive action being taken.
Mr. Alfred, a well-known resident of Brong-Densuso also added that when it rained, the running water carries leachate from the dump-site into the Densu River which is subsequently fetched by other inhabitants for domestic use, creating lots of health risk.
