Almost all the Cocoa Farmers across the country have urged the Ghanaian government and Ghana Cocoa Board to raise the price of cocoa from 660 Ghana cedis per bag to 1,500 Ghana cedis for the 2022-2023 harvest or they should forget their Cocoa this season.

According to the following associations across the country, Obaatampa Cocoa Farmers Cooperative Union, Dormaaman Cocoa Farmers Cooperative Union, Ghana National Cocoa Farmers Association (GNACOFA) ,Upper Dwira North Cocoa Farmers Cooperative Union, WASSA Cocoa Farmers Cooperative Union and many other associations have assured the government that, if their demand is not met they will sell their Cocoa outside the country.

They said, the lives of farmers in the country is very bad, high cost of agricultural equipment, utility services, transportation and many others so they are urging the government to raise the price of cocoa for the farmers .

Again, the hardship that Ghanaian cocoa farmers are experiencing is intolerable and if precautions are not taken, the situation of farmers will discourage the majority of the country’s youth from entering the farming business, which will ultimately reduce the nations production of cocoa and lower our country’s foreign exchange since Cocoa is the back bone of Ghana economy.

They therefore drew the attention of the government and Ghana Cocoa Board to the fact that cocoa farmers also go to the same markets as other citizens do, and since the government is committed to helping businesses grow, why shouldn’t the cocoa farmers receive the same assistance? As a result the price of cocoa should be increased to 1,500 cedis in 2022_2023 cocoa season if not they should forget their cocoa.
