Ransford Gyampo  Sends A Bold Message To Manhyia And Oyerepa FM After Station Was Closed Down

Sim Registration: Self-Service App Released

News broke yesterday that Ashanti Region based Oyerepa FM has been ordered to closed down. This follows certain comments made by Akwasi Addai Odike on their media channel. The former presidential aspirant had criticized the chiefs and leaders of the Ashanti Region for looking on and allowing people to engage in galamsey.

Apparently this didn’t go down well with Manhyia who felt Odike had thrown dust on their faces. In an announcement today, the Bantamahene, Baffour Amakwaatia VI called on Oyerepa FM to render an appropriate apology and appease Manhyia for what happened. Well, many have criticized this move by the Asante chiefs to order the station to close down and even banish Odike.

Ransford Gyampo, a lecturer with the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana has also added his voice to the conversation. In a bold post on Facebook, Ransford Gyampo said that Ghana is not a government based on monarchies and noted that chiefs cannot thus arbitrarily give orders to shut down FM stations.

Interestingly, Ransford Gyampo also wondered why the FM station didn’t challenge the order but chose to go by it. He blamed the station for playing weak and said they should have stood firm and continued their operations. Check out some of the reactions to the post.
