Appiatse Explosion: JDM to touch down in Appiatse Community on Tuesday

Former President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday, August, 16, 2022, will visit the Appiatse Community and commiserate with victims of the Thursday explosion.

The huge explosion disaster happened on Thursday, January 20, 2022, when a vehicle transporting explosives from Kumasi to a mining site in the area exploded.

Consequently, the 2020 presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress, Mr. John Mahama, in a statement on his Facebook page extended a message of condolences to the family of the victims of the unfortunate disaster at Appiatse in the Prestea Huni-Valley municipality of the Western Region.

The NDC communication Officer for Prestea Huni-Valley Constituency of the Western Region, Mr Kwame Acheampong Bonful Junior confirmed the former President’s visit to journalist on Saturday, August, 13, 2022.

According to Mr. Kwame Acheampong Bonful Junior, the rationale for the visit is to help the former President to get first hand information on the incident, the aftermath emotional reactions and how they planned to manage the situation.

The NDC communication Officer said the former President, John Mahama will tour the explosion site and interact with the Chief’s, victims and later engage the community folks.

Mr Kwame Acheampong Bonful Junior however expressed his disappointment at President Nana Akufo Addo for not showing a true statesmanship by neglecting the Appiatse Victims after barely 8 months of the disaster.

According to Mr. Bonful, the first gentleman of the land ought to have personally stormed the community to at least restore their confidence but, he (Nana Akufo Addo) have turned a deaf ear.

Meanwhile, Mr Bonful commended the Chief Executive Officer of Engineers & Planners, Ibrahim Mahama for his swift donations to the tragedy on Sunday, 23rd January.

Mr. Kwame Acheampong Bonful reiterated his called for accountability, transparency and judicious use of the Appiatse support fund.

He warned that the future will be exposed if the government does not ensure the fund is well managed to improve the livelihoods of all affected residents.

Mr. Kwame Bonful praised the Member of Parliament for Prestea Huni Valley, Hon Robert Wisdom Cudjoe, who lamented on the floor of Parliament that the temporal structures provided for the victims not safe during the rainy season.

He said, the call by their MP charging the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to speed up process to get permanent houses for the Victims of the Appiatse explosion victims was in the right direction.
