Ghana’s male Volleyball team also wins gold at AFCON zone 3
Ghana’s National male Volleyball team has won gold at the just ended Volleyball AFCON Zone 3 tournament, just two hours after the national female team had also beaten Mali in the finals in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
The male Black Spikers in what looked like a revenge, beat their Malian opponent 3:0 to be crowned the champions of Africa Zone 3. The team had earlier lost 3:0 to the Malians in their first match.
The Black Spikers defeated all other contenders while they marked Mali as a team to beat if they meet again at any stage of the tournament. despite strong opposition from the Malian in the first and second sets.
Earlier, the female Black Spikers beat Benin and Niger, 3:0 and 3:0 respectively at the group stage, they met and beat Benin again, 3:0 at the semi final.
The National Coach of the Male team, Rahman Danladi, in a victory speech said the journey to the top had been difficult with many obstacles including lack of resources and concern from many Ghanaians, but the players and technical team committed themselves to this victory.
“We give all thanks to Allah for seeing us through. All the teams came prepared and all players exhibited high levels of professionalism, and so we had no other choice than to motivate ourselves despite the low morale.
Today, we have achieved our target and we pray that this achievement will open the door for the leadership of our country and the corporate world to see the need to extend some attention and support towards the development of volleyball in Ghana.”
