How se_x drive changes in men during their 20s, 30s, 50s and beyond

It is natural for men to notice a gradual decrease in libido as they age. The degree of this decline varies. But most men maintain at least some amount of sexual interest into their 60s and 70s.

Sometimes loss of libido is related to an underlying conditions such as depression, stress, alcoholism, illicit drug use and fatigue. However, before libido is completely dormant in males, it goes through certain changes at various ages.

1. For men in their 20s.

Testosterone ( the hormone men need for sexual arousal) is typically high in the 20s, and so is their libido. This age is known to be the most fertile period in a man’s lifetime. On the contrary, it’s also a time when men are anxious about intimacy because of inexperience.

Research shows that 8% of men in their 20s report erectile dysfunction (ED).

However, the condition can happen because of a medical or mental health issue or even be a sign that you’re at risk for heart disease.

2. For men in their 30s and Early 40s

Many men continue to have a strong libido through these years, though testosterone starts to slowly decrease around age 35. It typically goes down by about 1% per year, but it could be faster for some men. This could have some effect on bedroom performance. Plus, for many men, the stress of work, family, and other commitments also affect sensual activities during these ages.

3. For men who are 50 years and Beyond

If you’re in good physical and mental health, there’s no reason you shouldn’t continue to enjoy the deed as you get older. However, at age 50 and beyond, men’s libido begin to decline very fast until it becomes dormant.
