SAD NEWS: 6 family members die in head-on-collision at Tshapfuche
SIX people, four allegedly from the same family, died on the spot when their car collided head on with a truck at Tshapfuche, 30 kilometres outside Beitbridge.
Police spokesperson, Paul Nyathi, said the accident occurred at around 4am with preliminary investigations showing the truck encroached into the lane of an incoming Range Rover vehicle in which the deceased were travelling in.
“I can confirm the accident which occurred at the 261 kilometre pegalong the Masvingo-Beitbridge road,” Nyathi said.
“Six people died on the spot and another seriously injured was ferried to Beitbridge hospital. The same has since been transferred to Bulawayo due to the seriousness of the injuries.
“It is understood the truck encroached into the lane of the smaller vehicle resulting in the collision.”
Beitbridge mayor, Munyaradzi Chitsunge, said the deceased were his relatives.
“I cannot name them now and have to wait for all the family members to be informed,” Chitsunge said.
Images from citizen journalists who visited the scene showed mangled remains of the Range Rover car, and what appeared to be wrapped bodies of deceased people laden on a police vehicle.
