A/R: “We deserve better than motorbikes”- Disappointed Assembly Members(Contacts)
The concerned Assembly Members in the Ashanti Region have expressed their disappointment in the government for neglecting them and only focusing on other Honourable members.
According to them, governments over the years have not seen the impact of assembly members and their contributions towards the development of the country hence treating them unfairly.
They say if all things being equal, assembly members and members of parliament do same work and have equal responsibilities but assembly members have been sidelined.
“We are elected as honourable members like the Members of Parliament but we have been neglected and treated poorly”, they vented out at a press briefing in Kumasi today.
They disclosed that the Finance Ministry only think about the wellbeing of the Maps while assembly members are being isolated.
The disappointed assembly members group consists of the following assembly members in the Ashanti Region:
Hon. Andrews Owusu (Sasa Bomso Electoral Area in Afigya Kwabre South District), Hon Mathew Darling(Afrancho Electoral Area in Atwima Kwanwoma District) , Hon I K Acheampong(Boatman Electoral Area in Afigya Kwabre North) etc.
The leader of the group who is the assembly member for Sasa Bomso Electoral Area in Afigya Kwabre South District, Hon Andrews Owusu explained bitterly that, they contribute a lot to the development in the country but their only reward is motorbikes.
“Motorbikes are our only reward which is very pathetic, looking at the nature of our work.
We do all the dirty and difficult works in the various electoral areas but we are not considered as vital members by successive governments”, Hon. Andrews added.
“We also deserve better than the motorbikes”, they lamented.
Finally, they appealed to the government to realize their role in the country as vital and give them the necessary support to motivate them.
