CAF postpones AFCON 2023
CAF postpones AFCON 2023
The Confederation of Africa Football has postponed the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Cup (AFCON) after a successful meeting earlier today.
Following the heavy rains in Ivory Coast during June/July, the AFCON 2023 has been postponed until 2024.
The 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations will take place in January/February 2024.
The competition was initially scheduled for June/July next year but it has been rescheduled because of the heavy rains in Ivory Coast during this period.
This decision was made today by the CAF Executive Committee that met in Rabat, Morocco.
It has been reported a few days ago that less than a year before kickoff, major cities in Ivory Coast are experiencing heavy rains with floods and the competition in the middle of the rainy season may not necessarily be a bright idea as confirmed by CAF.
The Teranga Lions of Senegal won the last edition of the competition in Cameroon.
