Chief Laments Over High Rate Of Teenage Pregnancies In His Area

The Chief of Njau, a suburb of Nsawkaw in the Tain District in Bono Region, Nana Anokone Sarpong Kumankoma, has bitterly expressed his worry over an alarming spate of teenage Pregnancy menace in the town.

Nana Anokone who is also the Kyidomhene of Nsawkaw Traditional Council blamed the phenomenon on parents and the broken discipline among the youth.

In an encounter with Appiah Kubi, the Anopa Nkommo show host at Tain FM, the chief blamed the rudiment of the menace on the parents in the community, saying at the girl’s tender ages, they are given to men ask for ‘daily bread’ due to their poor state of life.

“At a large degree, I’ll blame the parents because when the children reach JHS or when they complete the JHS, the parents do not take care of them again. They can’t even continue to SHS, so what they do is to dwell on the boys, hence the indiscriminate teenage pregnancy”, he bemoaned.

He therefore advised parents to take care of their wards and ensure that they are properly educated for the well-being of their future“.

The Chief said nearly 30 teenage pregnancies were recorded within every year at a population of less than 1000 people in the community.

“What baffles me to exacerbate the menace is that the youths (boys) in the town have gone for ‘for-girls’ to compete among themselves who can have more virgins to break”, the chief cried out.
