Green Ghana: KMA To Initiates One Household, Two Plants To Regain The Garden City
The Mayor of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly(KMA), Hon. Samuel Pyne is admonishing for a policy called One Household Two Plants.
According to the Mayor, it is part of the assembly’s effort to bringing back the old Garden City in Kumasi.
President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo launched the 2022 Edition of Green Ghana Day, at the Accra International Conference Centre.
The theme for this year’s exercise is “Mobilizing for a Greener Future”.
The President in his keynote address during the launching said, forests continue to be one of Ghana’s most important resource but regrettably there is a substantial decline of the country’s Forest cover.
The President therefore, called for concerted efforts to combat this menace.
The day for the exercise landed today, June 10, 2022
As part of it, KMA today embarked on exercise in support of the President’s agenda to greening the country and replanting of trees to getting back our depleted forest reserves.
Hon. Samuel Pyne, Kumasi Mayor, commended the Asante Monarch, Otumfuor Osei Tutu (ii) and the Government for ensuring effective planning and execution of planting of trees in the urban areas.
Hon. Pyne said the Assembly is glad to be part of the laudable initiative.
” We’re glad to be part of this initiative. Today we are planting 150 trees here, in J.A Kuffour SHS to help restoring the degraded landscape in the country to its normalcy in order to mitigate climate change and inculcate in the youths values of afforestation.
“You can see it’s raining but we’re doing our best to plant the trees to regain our greener pastures.
“I’ll want to initiate one household two plant to help us regain our Garden City again as it was previously.
Head Master of the school Mr. Frimpong Boateng in his statement emphasized that, he has 802 plus students but will make sure there will be one student one tree to help nurture the trees till it’s fully grown.
