Hungry Soldier in court for stealing Cerevita and Biscuits
A Soldier (30) stationed at Infantry 4.1 Brigade has appeared in court charged with theft after he allegedly broke into a shop at Mucheke Rank and stole cerevita and some biscuits.
Milton Mutumbi (30) appeared this week before Masvingo Magistrate Ritaiswe Silaigwana.
Mutumbi and Wilson Kambeva (36) of Dambiro street Mucheke A are jointly charged for the crimes.
The state alleges that on February 10,2022 at around 5am, Mutumbi and Kambeva approached the premises of the complainant McDonald Tava and broke a window. The duo took groceries and hid them at a secluded place.
They took away 20×500g boxes of cerevita porridge, 2×250g loose biscuits, 10×500g biscuits and a box of cornflakes. This was witnessed by Tanaka Mufamba who was at the working place on night duty. The accused persons shared the loot and gave some to Mufamba so that he would not reveal the offence.
Police officers received a tip off and arrested Mufamba who then exposed the other two. Police recovered 1 box of cerevita, 2×500g biscuits and one box of cornflakes from Mutumbi.
Magistrate Silaigwana remanded the matter to June 22,2022 for continuation of trial.
