Over 27,000 unemployed youth have been trained with vocational and technical skills under the Apprenticeship to Entrepreneurship (A2E) programme and supported to start up their business since 2020.

The Chief Executive Officer for Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), Mrs. Kosi Yankey-Ayeh said this at the graduation of 630 youth under the programme who were trained by the agency in collaboration with Mastercard Foundation in Kumasi today.

She said in the Ashanti region alone over 1,000 unemployed youth have been trained with the vocational and technical skills and supported with start-up skits.

The training, Mrs. Kosi said, was done from 2020 to date and their target has been to train about 39,000 unemployed youth with the skills.

She said the programme aimed to train the youth with the skills so that they can start up their businesses, and train, and employ others in their various communities.

For his part, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah urged the youth to prioritize vocational and technical skills since it provides self-employment while advising the beneficiaries of the A2E programme to start up their own business.
