E/R: Teachers Awards Launched

The Eastern Regional Education Directorate is set to organize Education Excellent Awards, to honour hardworking teachers, schools and best performing students in the region.

The purpose for the Award scheme is geared towards motivating all teachers to work harder, enhance the teacher–student relationship and improve the quality of education in the area.

The Eastern Regional Coordinating Director, Mr. Samuel Donkor speaking on behalf of the Eastern Regional Minister on the theme: “Bouncing back in unity through excellent education Delivery” said it’s appropriate for the region to examine the performance of quality education delivery.

To empower stakeholders and sector players in education cycle, Mr. Samuel Donkor said, there is the need to take a critical look at the quality of education delivery and called on individuals to discharge their various roles effectively.

The regional coordinating director on behalf of the Regional minister tasked the directorate to check high rate of school dropout in the region.

According to him, enhancing the country’s strategic aim of using education to eradicate extreme poverty, dealing with early school dropouts is the way to go.

Mr. Donkor contend that the marked rise in early school dropouts in rural and urban communities in Ghana could in the long term deepen the cycle of indigence.

In his breakdown statistics by quoting UNESCO Institute Of Statistics to back his call, he revealed that “globally, 258 Million children and youth are out of school, this includes 59 million children of primary school age and 62 million of lower secondly school age as well as 138 million of upper school age” he said.

According to the regional Minister, education is a human Right that can’t be taking for granted adding that, education must be available for every school going age to provide them the opportunity to make their dreams comes through.

At the launch of the Scheme on Thursday, 21st, April, 2022 at the Regional Coordinating Council brought together heads of schools in the Eastern Region.

The Eastern Regional Education director, Mrs Magereth Nsiah Asamoah stated that the Teacher Prize scheme underscored the importance of the teaching profession and signified the high recognition of teachers across the region.

Speaking to Afeema FM’s Journalist, Kaakyire Kwasi Afari, the education director indicated that the awards which is slated on July this year would boost the morale of the teachers in recognizing their role in nation-building.

She added that the directorate was committed to recognizing the contributions of hardworking and selfless teachers to improve their work performance.
