Such deaths have most often been from natural causes and illness, but there are also cases of assassination, execution, suicide and accident.

Here are some African Presidents who passed on whiles in Office.

1. John Atta Mills

John Atta Mills was the President of Ghana before he died. He died in 2012 at the age of 68 years old and the cause of his death was stroke and throat cancer. He died in Ghana and was buried in Ghana. He ruled for 3 years as President of Ghana before he died.

2. Gnassingbé Eyadéma

Gnassingbé Eyadéma was the President of Togo before he died. He died in 2005 at the age of 69 years old and the cause of his death was heart attack. He died in Tunisia and was buried in his homeland in Togo. He ruled for 38 years as of Togo before he died.

3. Sani Abacha

Sani Abacha was Nigeria military head of state before died. On 8th June 1998, Sani Abacha died in the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja. He was buried on the same day according to Muslim tradition and without an autopsy, fuelling speculation that he may have been assassinated. The government identified the cause of his death as a sudden heart attack.

4. Ibrahim Baré Maïnassara

Ibrahim Baré Maïnassara was the President of Niger before he died. He died in 1990 at the age of 49 years old and the cause of his death was assassination. He died in Niger and was buried in his homeland in Niger. He ruled for 3 years as President of Niger before he died.

5. Michael Sata
