The member of Parliament for Wassa Amenfi East, hon Nicholas Amankwah has lambasted Christian Council for staying silent on impunity and economic hardships happening in Ghana under president Nana Addo’s administration.

According to him, there is so much intolerance in Ghana orchestrated by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government in its attempt to continue to stay in power.

Hon. Nicholas Amankwah said there was the need for Christian Council to freely speak on economic mismanagement and political intolerance under this current NPP administration just like they did to the erstwhile Mahama administration.

“looking at the position of Ghana currently, worst things are happening under Nana Addo but Christian Council seems to be quiet.

If you look at the current rating by Moody’s and Fitch the worst ever rating since Kwame Nkrumah is president Nana Addo government” he told a radio station in Accra.

Hon. Nicholas Amankwah comment came to endorse former president John Mahama’s pronouncement that he’s happy about the fight on E-levy in Parliament which has woken the consciences of the Clergy.

The MP who is popularly known as Home Boy alleged that President Akufo-Addo have again hired another luxurious aircraft to embark on a ten-day working visit to France, Guyana, Belgium, Germany and United Kingdom.

According to the Amenfi East NDC legislator, the trips on the hired jet is to cost an cumulative amount of Gh¢5 million at the expense of the Ghanaian taxe payer.

The MP ranted that Eight lives were lost in the 2020 general elections with some other people sustaining injuries in the violence that occurred in various parts of the country but Christian Council kept mute on the matter.

Where were the Christian Council when all sorts of violence was unleashed at Ayawaso by-election.

He emphasized that, Christian Council ought to have condemned the electoral violence that characterized the national assignment.

Reacting to the happenings in Parliament over E-Levy bill, the Amenfi East MP insisted that, the brawl in Parliament was a fight to protect Ghana’s democratic rules.

This, he said the Minority will continue to resist any backdoor or unconstitutional attempt by the deputy Speaker of Parliament presiding over proceedings and leave his seat and vote on a decision before parliament.

He stressed that the move by the Minority in Parliament to prevent the passage of the E-levy was in the right direction to protect the 1992 Constitution and the Standing Orders of Parliament.

The Minority Caucus in Parliament according to Nicholas Amankwah, needs some commendations for rejecting the E-Levy.
