We’ll never accept your Semester-based academic calendar- CCT Takyi to GES
The Chairman of Coalition of Concerned Teachers, Ghana (CCT-Ghana), in the Volta Region, Mr. Kwame Takyi Solomon has stated that, the coalition including the other teacher unions will not accept the implementation of the Semester-based academic system by Ghana Education Service (GES)
Speaking on the issue on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, on Omanbapa Morning Show on Silver in Kumasi, the CCT Chairman called on GES to immediately withdraw the policy, changing the trimester to a semester.
When asked about their involvement in the new policy, Mr. Takyi told the host of the program, Nana Ampratwum that, GES never consulted them.
He is therefore calling for it’s withdrawal immediately, and resubmit it for broader consultation.
CCT together with NAGRAT, GNAT, TEWU in their earlier joint statement said, they will fiercely resist the policy if the government fails to withdraw its decision.
“We, therefore, call on the GES to immediately withdraw the policy, pending full consultations with the Unions in Education and other major stakeholders and to serve notice, that failure to do so would be resisted fiercely,” they said.
According to the group, for such a major policy decision, the government should have engaged the teacher unions.
On January 14 2022, the GES in a Facebook post announced the introduction of a semester-based academic calendar for all basic schools.
This has been opposed by some Education Think Tank including CCT.
