Groups demand justice for Andrews Donkor after 3months of No Show

BREAKING: Highlife Music Legend, A.B Crentsil Is Dead

A human Right advocacy group and nongovernmental organization, Shaip Africa Foundation and some Nzema Groups has observed with dismay after 3 months, little or no attempt is made to ensure that the perpetrators of Andrews Donkor are brought to book.

It’s recall that, a shooting incident by some military officers that occurred at the Nkroful Magistrate court premises on Friday April 1, 2022, which rendered a resident of Teleku Bokazo in the Western region by name Andrews Donkor
dead and others including David Mohammed injured.

This unfortunate incident occurred when the military officers gave several gunshots into an unarmed crowd following a misunderstanding between some youth and the military after a military officer seized a phone belonging to one of the youths who was purported to be taking photographs at the forecourt of Nkroful Magistrate court.

According to eyewitness account, these military officers were allegedly sent on operation by Adamus Resources Company to arrest illegal miners who had encroached their concession and sent them to Court on the same day but ended up killing an innocent person at the court premises.

Shaip Africa Foundation and Nzema Koyele Eku in a joint press release issued on 12 July, 2022, the group questioned who authorization ordered the Military officers to visit the Nkroful Court premises.

They reiterates that Andrews Donkor was not an illegal miner and
neither did he partake in the “phone banter” between the Military and the youth adding that, Donkor was just an observer standing armfolded and did not participate in anything that took place at the court premises but ended up losing his life through the careless shooting by the military.

The two groups, SHAIP Africa and Nzema Koyele Eku however commend the MP for Ellembele constituency Hon. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah in demanding for justice by officially petitioning the Commission on Human Right and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) on April 21, 2022, to investigate the matter.

Meanwhile, the group bemoan its unfortunate and sad to note that, after two months, they have seen no attempt by CHRAJ to initiate the investigation process leaving the soldiers unpunished.

As a civil society organization bent on representing the interest of the vulnerable, they strongly oppose any
form of injustice and human right abuses in society, they are therefore commend the Ellembele MP Hon. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah for his relentless efforts and call upon CHRAJ to as a matter of urgency commence thorough justice delivery process as “Justice delayed is justice denied”.

The human Right advocacy group are calling on the state to take keen interest in this matter by taking the needed action in support of the action by CHRAJ as they believe strongly that ADAMUS Mining company is vicariously liable for the
actions leading to the death of Andrews Donkor and bring the military personnel to book as well as other accomplices from the Ghana Police service and compensate.

In the same development, Andrews Donkor will be laid to rest on 17th – 18th August 2022, the group in their joint press release sends its sincere condolences to the family of our brother but promise to support in all legitimate efforts to obtain justice.
