5 Superfoods You Should Be Eating everyday

You’ve probably heard of superfoods, but may not know which ones are in that category. Here’s a list of foods that are so good for you that they’re, well, super.

Superfoods, salmon, blueberries, avocado, etc.

I know what you’re thinking. You’re probably telling yourself, “I know which foods are super. Burritos are super. Fettuccine is super. Oreo cheesecake is super. I’ve got this down.”

In this case, “superfoods” are nutrient-dense foods that supply a hefty dose of vitamins and minerals. Which, unfortunately, eliminates cinnamon rolls.

If you’re looking for a comprehensive list of superfoods, there really isn’t one, but in this article, we’ll recommend a handful of healthy foods that are practical for incorporating into your everyday diet. Bok choy, for instance, is a great superfood that helps offer protection from certain types of cancer, but it’s not easy to eat regularly. So, here’s our take on superfoods that are practical and powerful:

Cinnamon
Not only is cinnamon delicious, it’s also loaded with antioxidants, helps cut down inflammation, and helps improve sensitivity to insulin. Here’s the catch: The cheap cinnamon you find most often in the supermarket isn’t the best. You’ll want to find Ceylon, which of course is more expensive, and then get used to sprinkling it in your everyday cooking.

Blueberries
Next up in our “delicious and nutritious” list are blueberries, the antioxidant-packed superfood that features phytochemicals and vitamins C, K, and manganese. They taste amazing on cereal, in baked goods, or frozen. Top them on kefir for a filling and healthy snack.

Avocados
Oh, avocados. What did we put on toast before we met you? Avocados are a bit pricy in most states, but worth it—after all, they’re packed with healthy fats, folate, vitamin C, and vitamin K. Turn avocados into guacamole, put them on toast, or just put some Himalayan pink salt on them and eat them whole.

Salmon
A lot of people don’t care for fish, and if you’re one of them, we’re not judging you. The thing is, salmon has so many benefits. Besides omega-3 fatty acids, it has protein, B vitamins, potassium, selenium, and antioxidants. Try a poke bowl and fall in love with this body-friendly fish.

Sweet potatoes
There are many ways to enjoy this delicious food. Have it baked (or mashed) as a side dish or add sweet potato to salads, stews, or burritos. Have you had sweet potato fries yet? If not, you can make some. And while you’re happily chewing those delicious sweet potato fries, know that you’re also putting vitamins and minerals into your body, especially vitamins A and vitamin C.

These five superfoods are delicious, found in just about any grocery store, and easy to incorporate into your daily diet. Being more mindful about the food you eat shows appreciation for your body and for all the things it does for you, so treat yourself to nutrient-dense foods and give yourself a little love. And treat yourself to avocado toast!
