Health Services Workers’ Union (HSWU) of Trade Union Congress (TUC) in the Ashanti region are lamenting bitterly due to the current economic hardship in the country.

According to the Regional Chairman of HSWU, Emmanuel Osei Gyamfi, the inflation has risen since the government introduced the 15% Cost of Living Allowance.

Speaking to Silver fm’s Nana Frimpong, though commended the government for the introduction of the COLA but argued that, the 15% is not enough for them due to the inflation rate in the country.
Government and organized labour on 14th July 2022agreed on a 15 percent cost of living allowance for members of organized labour.

The various worker unions, including the four teacher unions, the Ghana Medical Association, and the Public Sector Workers Union, among others, demanded the payment of 20 percent of their basic salaries as Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) due to the current economic situation in the country.

However, Emmanuel Gyamfi believes that, the government should increase the 15% to 20% to help ease the economic burden on them.

He made this known during the celebration of their 13th anniversary and also launching of HSWU Fund in the region.

Emmanuel Gyamfi explaining the rationale behind the HSWU fund, he stated that, the fund will help their members earn enough when going on retirement.
