The Bolgatanga Central MP, Isaac Adongo, has called for broader consultations with respect to Ghana’s latest engagement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for support.

Speaking to Citi News, Mr. Adongo said, “it cannot be a programme drawn on the desk of one person or two people.”

“At this point in time, you would have expected that there would have been some considerable engagement with stakeholders because this is a Ghana programme.”

“There must be some form of broader consultation and engagement in order to develop an enduring programme that all Ghanaians can buy into and lend support to the government. We are not seeing that happen,” the MP said.

On the pace of negotiations, Mr. Adongo said the government needs to step up its game “otherwise it will become a security threat.”

“If we do not secure a programme by December or wore still by 31st March, we would have a very dire situation on our hands, and nobody wants us to get there.”

An IMF team is in Ghana until October 7 to continue discussions with the government on policies and reforms that could be supported by a lending arrangement.

The last IMF mission to Ghana was between July 6 and July 13, 2022.
