Asamang youths demand action against galamsey in their community
The youths of Asamang Tamfoe in the Atiwa West District of the Eastern Region have appealed to the Lands and Natural Resources Minister and their District Chief Executive to clamp down on illegal activities on their lands.
The youths on Monday, December 13, 2021, briefed the press about the state of destruction illegal mining activities have caused them.
Addressing the media, the leader of the concerned residents, Mr. Adade Wiredu highlighted numerous challenges facing the community as a result of the galamsey activities.
He mentioned destruction of farms and water bodies, abandoned pits posing threat to the people and many others as a result of illegal activities.
Some of the farmers registering their displeasure to the press at the press also said, the illegal miners are destroying their farms without their consent adding.
“When we allow them here, they will impregnate all our female children and there would be more teenage pregnancies in the community”, a woman said in the interview with the press.
The youths have therefore called on the authorities to as a matter of urgency drive all galamseyers from the area else, they’ll face their wrath.
