Ashanti Region power outages to end in December 20,2021- GRIDCo Boss

The Director of Northern Network Services at Gridco Engineer Vincent Boakye has said the power supply situation in Greater Kumasi has been experiencing some challenges in recent times, especially during peak periods (the hours of 6pm to 11pm).

He indicates that, on November 9, 2021 a communication tower collapsed and fell on the 330KV Aboadze – Kumasi Transmission line at Bogoso, Three transmission towers collapsed in the process and were extensively damaged, requiring either repairs or complete replacement, due to that the available transmission network cannot carry enough power to the country’s middle and Northern parts, including Kumasi.

Therefore reconstruction works have been expedited to reconstruct fallen towers and restore the line to service to normalize the power situation in Kumasi by December 20, 2021.additionally, related works are going on across the gas supply chain to enhance and improve gas supply.

He said the ministry of energy is in collaboration with its it agencies to establish another power generation enclave in Kumasi to improve power supply reliability to the middle and northern parts of the country. This includes the relocation of Ameri power plant from Aboadze to Kumasi, which is expected to be completed by the 2022.


He further apologize for the inconvenience being experience by customers. There are also ongoing short, medium to long term intervention led by the ministry of Energy towards finding lasting solutions to power challenges facing Kumasi.
