The 16 driver unions have suspended their intended strike over fuel prices.
The Private Transport Operators who have threatened to embark on a strike action if government fails to reduce fuel prices have been urged to suspend their action.
According to Eric Asirifi, National executive member of GPRTU, as soon as the union declared their intention, they met with the Transport Minister and the minister for Energy with other stakeholders and shared their frustrations with them.
Mr. Eric Asirifi said the two sector Ministers appealed to the driver Unions to suspend the strike and assured them that fuel prices will be reduced by Tuesday, 30th November 2021.
Their assurance comment comes after the Coalition of Private Transport Operators declared a strike.
The strike action was expected to commence today, Monday, November 29th, 2021.
The coalition of Private Transport Operators consist of Ghana Private Road and Transport Union (GPRTU), Association of Tipper Truck Drivers, Harbor Transport Owners, Ghana National Cargo Transport Association, Ghana Committed Drivers Association, Concerned Drivers Association, Digital Drivers, Commercial motorbike riders, popularly referred to as Okada, the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers among others.
However, Mr Eric Asirifi, National executive member of the GPRTU has assured that though they agreed to suspend the strike today, they would be forced to continue their actions if the government fails to honor his promise.
He further called on all the unions to continue putting red bans on their vehicles until further notice.
